LIMINAL OBJECTS - Contemporary Critical Fashion
Liminal Objects features a new generation of Nordic designers and artists that explore and challenge how materials, functions, bodies and identities are perceived within fashion and art. Liminality refers to being on both sides, in a transitional stage, on the threshold between two worlds, and the co-presence of opposites. The exhibition features objects that have the quality of ambiguity and disorientation that allow new ideas, practices and identities to emerge and develop at the threshold between fashion and art. The group of designers and artists are part of new critical generation that experiment with materials, shapes and narratives and re-negotiate the categories of disciplines. They give discarded objects new life and test the boundaries of the craft of fashion. Through recycling, upcycling and hand-making they are re-positioning the status of fashion. Using materials, objects and histories in new contexts, they are confronting cultural and societal norms and orders.
